  • Breathlessly = breathing badly.
  • To squeal = to scream like a pig.
  • To dismiss = to reject an idea.
  • Mere = simple. 
  • To struggle = to fight to get sth.
  • To pierce = to make a hole in sth.
  • Gaze = look.
  • Odd = strange.
  • To startle = to surprise.
  • To flutter about = to make small quick movement.
  • To pull oneself together = (recobrar la compostura).
  • To be as thin as a rake = to be extremely thin.
  • Level-headed = sensible.
  • Lean = thin/poor.
  • Plump = fat (rollizo).
  • Neatly = tidily.
  • Trimmed = cut.
  • Superb = extremely good.
  • To frown = (fruncir el ceño).
  • To mutter = to talk quietly.
  • To be out of sight = to be out of the visible range
  • Uneasy = uncomfortable.
  • To greet = to welcome/ to say hello.
  • To sadden = to make sad.
  • To creep = to move slowly.
  • To be a silly goose = to be foolish (pavonearse).
  • Frantically = (frenéticamente)
